The new Sideshow Premium Format devoted to Wolverine has been released in 2018, with an edition size of 2500 pieces for the exclusive version, offering an alternate, unmasked head showing the furious face of Logan (at the moment, the run of the "Collector" edition is still to be defined). The statue was mainly designed by Alex Pascenko and sculpted by Rafel Grassetti, with the collaboration of Martin Canale and many other artists of the Sideshow Design and Development Team. The size is about 44 x 31 cm, the heigth 40 cm and the piece weighs less than 5.5 Kg. The character shows a frontal and rather dynamic pose, with the body leaning forward, the right leg bent to support the weight and the left one stretched backwards; both arms are open, with closed fists and the lethal claws of adamantium in good evidence. The body sculpt is excellent: all muscles are very well defined on chest, abdomen, legs, back and, above all, on arms, where swollen veins embellish the powerful quadriceps and the typical down of the character is realized in a masterful way. The suit exhibits a rather modern design, far from the lines of the most traditional yellow-blue costume, and is fully texturized, thus providing an amazing visual impact. The dominant background yellow is very bright and offers a beautiful chromatic contrast with the light blue patch (with an almost metallic tone) embellishing both the sides of the charater and, above all, his back. The classic, rigid guards on shoulders are colored with a darker blue tonality, which also characterizes the inner part of the gloves. The open claws with a perfect metallic appearance, two "dirty" yellow guards on knees and the high boots, with "angular" yellow strips on the background black color, complete the charming design of the figure. The base depicts the ruins of a Sentinel's hand, resting on a small rock. The hand of the robot shows a large metallic circle in the palm, embellished with a red translucent core, certainly representing a lethal emitter of energy rays; the hand is well proportioned, very rich in mechanical details and colored with a dominant, wonderful cyan tone. The two heads are simply perfect! The masked one is characterized by the lateral, black and pointed winglets, with the face showing an outlined beard around the mouth and the typical, long sideburns, just coming out from the sides of the mask; moreover, two white eyes without pupils and gnashed teeth give the hero a rabid and captivating expressiveness. The unmasked (exclusive) head exhibits an open mouth and a thick hair masterfully painted in black and with soft bluish shades. Note the great care paid to details in the perfect curved eyebrows, the deep creases at the sides of the mouth, the well finished brown pupils and the wrinkling on the upper part of the nose. In my opinion, this Wolverine Premium Format represents one of the most successful statues of the recent Sideshow production; it slightly reminds the old Comiquette, with which it shares a rather similar pose, the excellence of the sculpt and a first-rate coloring; nevertheless, the modern design of the suit gives the statue a nice touch of originality and makes it a true must for all fans of the character.
